African Blue Basil
African Blue Basil has small lilac edible flowers that have a sweet aniseed taste. Use in pasta, soups or as salad garnish, float the flowers in a glass of iced tea or sprinkle buds over roasted potatoes. Deep rich green leaves with a purple tinge and under-leaf. A strong basil flavour, it can be used as a substitute for sweet basil in cooking. Being a perennial, it flowers all year round! Another bee loving plant to increase your vege patch yields!
Planting Info
Perennial herb growing up to about 1.2m high, spreading out. Can use as a hedge in the garden or will grow in a good sized pot with good soil and light. Give a good trim back when flowers start to look old, this will promote more growth and a new flush! Full sun to part shade with good draining soil. Easy to propagate through cuttings. Good companion plant for tomato and peppers.
