Basil - Holy Green, Tusli
Holy basil, Green basil or Tulsi Basil is a green, leafy plant native to Southeast Asia, having a high nutritional value containing vitamin A, calcium, zinc, iron and chlorophyll. Extracts made from its leaves are thought to boost wound healing speed and strength. Holy basil is antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory. Plants are upright with purple stems, slightly hairy aromatic green oval shaped leaves. The plant produces small white/mauve flowers in summer. Leaves have a slightly spicy flavour are commonly used as a flavouring in Thai cuisine. Is used to make a tea. Traditionally used to repel insects.
Planting Info
A fast growing annual herb growing 30-60cm tall. Plant seedlings 40cm apart. Grows in well-drained soil in a protected sunny position with a frequent amount of water.
