Pak Choi
Pak Choi is a standard ingredient in many Chinese dishes such as chow mein and soups, the leaves have a hint of mustard flavour. Japanese serve stir-fried pak choi with tofu and meat dishes. Very low in saturated fat and cholesterol and a great source of fibre, protein, vitamins A, C, K, riboflavin, vit B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium.
Growing Info
An annual that likes a sunny yet moist position, generally planting in spring and autumn are ideal. If planting in tropical states where the sun will be very hot, they will bolt to seed so plant part-shade or wait until cooler months. They require frequent watering (shallow rooted) and good mulching. Likes loamy, well-drained soil. Can harvest young leaves after 30 days. Companion plant with beans, beetroot, cabbage, carrots, cucumber, marjoram, peas and strawberries.
